Artist statement:
This is an atypical painting from the Safari series, intentionally diverging from conventional representation. It depicts the profile of a rooster, but the true fascination lies in its construction. The rooster is created on cardboard, first shaped with wax in relief, and only then painted over to achieve the final motif.
The wax gives the work a tactile, almost three-dimensional presence, transforming the cardboard into a living surface that captures and reflects light. The painting thus becomes not only a depiction but also a process – an unveiling of form through texture and color that emerge from the material itself.
The result is a powerful, unexpected portrait that feels simultaneously raw and refined. It invites the viewer to look deeper, to sense the structure beneath the surface, and to recognize that the motif is not merely painted – but built. This rooster is not just seen – this rooster is felt.
