Artist statement:
The painting presents a playful and caricatured interpretation of a phallic motif that expands outward in multiple directions, only to retract back into the canvas. In its final stage of transformation, a head appears calmly smoking a cigar – a visual twist that both literally and ironically reflects the title of the work.
The piece is conceived as a humorous and provocative gesture, balancing between absurdity and satire. Through exaggeration and visual humor, the painting plays with themes of ego, boldness, and social gestures that we often perform without thinking, but here become objects of laughter.
The background is rendered in soft blue tones that gradually transition from lighter to darker shades, creating a calm and almost meditative contrast to the main motif. The phrase "puši kurac" is written directly on the canvas, further emphasizing the literalness, humor, and linguistic context of the work.
