Biokovo Mountain

Artist statement:

Biokovo Mountain is a relief inspired by the powerful presence of Mount Biokovo, which rises directly from the Adriatic Sea and shapes the distinctive panorama of Dalmatia. The mountain’s highest peak, Sveti Jure, reaches 1,762 meters above sea level, and Biokovo is recognized as a natural symbol of the region due to its unique geomorphology and rich biodiversity.

The relief is modeled and cast in bronze, with the form of the mountain defined by the chosen model. The green stone in the background symbolizes nature, life, and vegetation, while the bronze mountain surface shines in golden tones, evoking strength, endurance, and the deep significance Biokovo has long held for the local community and the cultural identity of Dalmatia.

This work explores the symbiosis of material and landscape—just as Mount Biokovo in nature connects stone, vegetation, and sky, the relief unites different elements to convey the power and beauty of this remarkable landscape.
