Artist statement:
The sculpture "Woodpecker" emerged from an encounter with found materials and a minimal artistic intervention. A piece of driftwood, discovered in its natural environment, already suggested the form of a bird's head. Rather than imposing a new shape, I chose to follow what the material itself revealed. A subtle intervention of red paint emphasizes the recognizable features of the woodpecker and guides the viewer's perception.
The body of the sculpture is constructed from two discarded iron elements of industrial origin, which in this new context take on an organic, almost living presence. By combining wood and iron, the work establishes a dialogue between the natural and the industrial, the ephemeral and the durable, the soft and the rigid.
The piece is grounded in the principle of the ready-made, where found objects, through minimal intervention, acquire new meaning. "Woodpecker" is not merely a representation of a bird, but a reflection on recognizing form in chance, transforming discarded materials into sculpture, and exploring the delicate boundary between nature and human intervention.
