Artist statement:
This work emerged from my early experiments for my undergraduate project. The initial idea was to burn through the center of the wood using fire. One of the plans was to apply this process to a large tree trunk, where fire would play an important role in the final outcome.
In this smaller-scale piece, I tested that idea. Although the experiment was successful, the wood cracked and split into several parts. Instead of discarding it, I decided to reconnect the fragments using metal staples. To preserve this state, the work was placed on an iron stand.
The title "Wacky Wood" comes from associations between the staples and elements of punk culture – safety pins, rivets, and similar details – which are reflected in the character of the work itself.
