Artist statement:

This sculpture is a sketch for a larger bronze figure from the Ballerinas series. The figure stands on the toes of one foot, with the other leg parallel, and the arms gently arch backward, the body leaning slightly back, captured in a moment of elegant balance. The clay, in a warm caramel tone, emphasizes the softness and vitality of the form, while the wooden pedestal, in a simple rectangular shape, provides structural stability and a contrast to the airy figure. The work conveys the energy and grace of the movement, preserving the immediacy of the sketch that leads toward the final bronze sculpture.
