Artist statement:
This work, from the Safari series, is painted on cardboard, where the material itself becomes an integral part of the narrative. In the foreground, a pigeon appears in relief – strong, textured, and almost sculptural. The figure is built through layered use of various materials: paper, ink, varnish, marker, wax, and cardboard, creating a tactile surface that captures light and shadow in a dynamic way.
In the background, red and yellow tones dominate, intensifying the composition and giving the scene a charged, almost theatrical atmosphere. Beneath the pigeon lies a swan, made from collaged newspaper, whose body is carefully assembled yet clearly rooted in everyday media reality.
The work plays with contrasts – between the solid structure of the pigeon and the softer, fragile presence of the swan; between the rawness of cardboard and the elegance of the depicted birds. It is a visual dialogue of materials and meanings, where ordinary reality becomes extraordinary, and the natural world is reimagined through layers of human expression.
