Artist statement:
This work is part of the Safari series and was created after a quick sketch of an ox in a sketchbook. Based on this initial sketch, a supporting structure was built, onto which the plaster form was shaped directly, allowing the sculpture to develop intuitively and spontaneously.
The ox is defined by a contrast of materials and finishes: its white plaster body is complemented by polished iron horns, which introduce a sharp, reflective accent. The sculpture is placed on a dark wooden pedestal, previously burned and brushed for aesthetic effect, creating a strong visual and material contrast with the light figure above.
The work explores the translation of a rapid, gestural line into three-dimensional form, emphasizing process, immediacy, and volumes that mostly follow the gestures of the ox.
