Defensive Phase

Artist statement:

The sculpture from the Safari series depicts a squid that is ejecting ink onto the pedestal, captured in a moment of defensive reaction, which is why it is titled Defensive Phase. The piece is placed on a round, porous stone that resembles the seabed, further enhancing the sense of a marine environment.

The sculpture was modeled in wax and immediately cast in bronze, making it a unique piece. It was conceived as a sketch for a larger sculpture that would be installed on a seaside promenade, creating the illusion of the squid leaping into the sea, with its defensive reaction becoming part of the landscape and the narrative of the space.
